The Parnall companies entered aviation when the Admiralty asked Parnall & Sons Ltd to manufacture and recondition RNAS aeroplanes. This work involved Avro, Fairey, Short and Sopwith types and led to Parnall designing and building its own naval aircraft and to a long association between Parnall, the Admiralty, Air Ministry and British aviation industry. The author traces in great detail the history and development of the Parnall concerns from early in the 20th century and their involvement in aircraft work up to the mid-1960s.
