Textbook originally prepared for use by the cadets at the United States Military Academy. In this text the author has endeavored to explain and illustrate in technical detail a number of the important engineering principles underlying the design of wire-wrapped guns and of gun carriages. The principles discussed include elastic strength, determination of forces brought upon gun parts, stresses brought upon the gun carriage, toothed gearing, and counter-recoil springs.
