The system of warfare used between 1792 and 1815 was unique in many senses. It was the logical evolution from systems used during the Seven Years War, and provided the basis for the evolution of warfare for years to come. Even as late as 1914 the campaigns of Napoleon were seriously studied at the various national military academies.
Two Napoleonic generals, Clausewitz and Jomini, acted as the disciples and preachers of Napoleon's system of warfare, spreading it throughout the world. Napoleon's
system was as innovative as had been Frederick the Great's, and warfare would never be the same again after he had put his mark on it. It is because of the historical significance of this period that I have felt an obligation to document how its wars were fought...............
